Mengapa ketawa terasa sangat sedap?

Image

Book Review: “Everything Happens For A Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved”

Image
Written by Kate Bowler   “We can focus on your comfort always means we’re giving up.” I can’t count how many times I’ve heard this sentiment from both patients and other healthcare providers, and to read it both frustrated and encouraged me at the same time. It’s frustrating because to know that what I do, as a palliative care physician, to help patients and their families during some of their darkest, scariest, heartbreaking and most painful moments, is seen as 'giving up' when it couldn’t be any more different. Yet, I also find it encouraging because it reminds me that there is much work left to be done on educating everyone on the importance of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM). “Everything Happens For A Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved” is Duke Divinity history professor Kate Bowler’s personal perspective on how being diagnosed with cancer disrupted her "seemingly perfect life" and forced her to question what matters most when it comes down to

3 Habits Dalam New Normal

Image
1.       Sanitize Activities Call this self-care, leisure or living life to the fullest.

Tampil Lebih Yakin Dengan Amalan-Amalan Ini.

— Matthew Ca

Finally! We’ve Uncovered What H&M Really Stands For.

Image
Founded in 1947, Swedish clothing retailer H&M has burgeoned into one of the most recognizable brand icons in the fashion industry. We can always sleep a little more easily knowing that fast fashion has our back in case of a surprise outing or spontaneous rendezvous. But despite H&M’s booming popularity and countless brick and mortar stores, most of us don’t know what those renowned initials actually stand for. If you’ve never really given a second thought to the meaning behind the acronym, you’re definitely not alone. Some stores just seem to have been there since the beginning of time. However, most retailers actually carry a very interesting story behind their name, and H&M is no exception. The name itself is brimming with history. When founder Erling Persson opened his first H&M shop in Sweden in 1947, he deemed it as Hennes, which translates into Swedish for “Hers.” This was quite a literal rendering as Hennes only sold women’s clothing at the time. Most ‘Rare Menu’ That People Actually Eat

Image
Still-beating cobra hearts, decayed fish heads, all these and much more are genuine delicacies in some parts of the world, but absolutely horrific to others. Most of the foods are something that is hard to get, shocking, foul-tasting, smelly, and even illegal. Nowadays these foods have rarely been served to the public, but you can still find these types of food far away from the city and out of society. Here, is the 5 ‘rare menu’ that makes you want to puke. Bull Penis Bull Penis is one of the menus that featured in China and beliefs say that it is purported to have aphrodisiacal powers. Bat Soup Fruit bat soup was so popular in Gam till the bats were nearly eaten into extinction. The meat is sweet and tastes almost like chicken. When the bats are cooked, they produce a strong urine-like smell. Portrait of a Lady on Fire Is a Grand!!

Image
Celine Sciamma’s lovely period romance Portrait of a Lady on Fire starts off as a film about looking, but its heart lies in less obvious, more suggestive cinematic elements like texture, mood, and sound. The movie is set sometime in the late 18th century, on a windswept island in Brittany where young painter Marianne (Noémie Merlant) has just arrived with an odd commission: She is to secretly paint young noblewoman Héloïse (Adèle Haenel), so that a prospective Milanese a husband who was previously betrothed to Héloïse’s sister, who killed herself can see her and decide whether he wants her as a wife. Héloïse has just left a Benedictine convent, and, reluctant to marry so soon after receiving her freedom, has already spurned one painter. So Marianne slowly befriends Héloïse, pretending to be there simply as a walking companion, while also clandestinely painting her portrait, a trust exercise founded on betrayal. But Sciamma wisely underplays the potential melodrama of this

The Longest Tongues in the Animal Kingdom.

Image
Giraffe A giraffe’s tongue is a whopping 18 to 20 inches long to access hard-to-reach leaves. It’s also blue-black in color, which may keep the tongue from getting sunburned. Talk about a cool adaptation. Okapi The giraffe is the okapi’s closest relative, so naturally, the okapi shares its relative’s leaf-reaching prowess. In fact, the okapi often uses its tongue to clean its eyes and nose. Hummingbird A hummingbird’s long, slender bill is adapted to collect nectar from flowers. The bill protects the long, split tongue and allows each hummingbird species to feed on specific types of flowers. The tongue actually has long tubes inside that help the hummingbird get its fill of nectar. Sun Bear The sun bear’s especially long tongue is perfectly suited for getting at honey and insects inside trees and other tight places. Its appetite for coconuts, oil palms, and other commercial crops have led to a lot of conflict between sun bears and humans. Sadly, this confl

This is the egg-laying season if you're a bird.

If you're an octopus, particularly a giant Pacific octopus, you've been there, done that. In fact, you died doing it, in what is the saddest mommy story I've heard in a long while. It calls, " No Mother Could Give More ." We begin with a pregnant octopus. She's been that way for four or five months, carrying the eggs inside her body until one day, in mid-winter, when the water temperature is right, she starts expelling her eggs, one by one, into the water. She will produce (and this will take her a month or so) about 56,000 individuals, who float free until she gathers them into groups, then stitch them into hanging braids, like a bead curtain in a Chinese restaurant. This is her octopus " den " (a wild mammal's hidden home or a lair). It's usually an underwater cave, protected by rocks that she's put at the entrance to keep hungry crabs, sea stars, and fish from getting too close. She's glued about 170 braids to the roo

9 Countries That Have Banned McDonald’s

Image
Despite what you might think, the fast-food giant has not loved the whole world over. Bermuda Until 1995, there was only one McDonald’s restaurant on this Caribbean island. Now, there are zero. The country has a law banning foreign fast-food joints that have been in place since the 1970s.  McDonald’s, however, managed to find a loophole in 1985 by building a Mickey D’s on a U.S. Naval Air Station. That station closed in 1995, however, and the McDonald’s closed with it. According to mic.com, the franchise took another crack at breaking into Bermuda in 1999, but this time, the law won out. Iran In recent years, relations between this Middle Eastern country and the United States have been tense, to say the least, and Western franchises like McDonald’s have been collateral damage. There hasn’t been a set of Golden Arches in Iran since 1979. However, that hasn’t stopped people from wondering whether the chain could eventually make a comeback. Further complicating mat
