These Are the Only Two Body Parts That Don’t Stop Growing.

Image
Hint: They're both on your head. After your parents have ticked off the last mark on your childhood growth chart, after you’ve stopped outgrowing shoes, and when the horrors of puberty are a distant memory, you may think it’s safe to claim that you’ve “stopped growing.” But there are two significant parts of your body that apparently didn’t get the memo. Once the growth of the rest of your body has slowed to a stop, your nose and your ears continue increasing in size. Dr. Ryan Neinstein, a plastic surgery practitioner at NYC Surgical Associates and Neinstein Plastic Surgery, explains what makes these two facial features different from the rest of your body. Dr. Neinstein describes how the multiplication of our cells drives the growth of our bodies. “Most cells in our body stopped multiplying at puberty.  When the cells throughout our bodies, such as bone, muscle, and fat cells, stop duplicating, we stop growing. This doesn’t mean that cells themselves can’t get

Whales Swallow Half a Million Calories in Single Mouthful

Image
The filter-feeding strategy of blue whales, the largest animals on Earth may explain their enormous size, according to a study that determined a single mouthful of food can contain 457,000 calories, or 240 times as much energy as they burn when grabbing that mouthful. Blue and some other whale species eat by taking enormous mouthfuls of water and filtering out their meals, often tiny crustaceans called krill, using plates of baleen made of keratin, a protein found in hair, fingernails, and feathers. The baleen whales are much more efficient feeders than their smaller relatives, the toothed whales, which hunt down individual prey and also baleen whales' efficiency is unprecedented in the animal kingdom. When they take a gulp of water, they are filling their mouths with the amount of water equal to their own body mass, so there is nothing that comes close to doing that. These whales may eat an enormous quantity of food in a single gulp, but the effort is taxing.

Trust Your Thirst

Image
some health gurus believe that you need to sip on water constantly throughout the day, even when you’re not thirsty. As with most things, this depends on the individual. Many factors (both internal and external) ultimately affect your need for water. This article takes a look at some water intake studies to separate fact from fiction and explains how to easily match water intake to your individual needs. Many people claim that if you don’t stay hydrated throughout the day, your energy levels and brain function start to suffer. And there are plenty of studies to support this. One study in women showed that a fluid loss of 1.36% after exercise impaired mood and concentration and increased the frequency of headaches ( 1 Trusted Source ). Other studies show that mild dehydration (1–3% of body weight) caused by exercise or heat can harm many other aspects of brain function ( 2 Trusted Source ,  3 Trusted Source ,  4 ). Keep in mind that just 1% of body weight is a fairly si

What we need to know about Cancer

DNA exists in the individual genes of every cell. It has instructions that tell the cell what functions to perform and how to grow and divide. Mutations occur frequently in DNA, but usually, cells correct these mistakes. When a mistake is not corrected, a cell can become cancerous. Mutations can cause cells that should be replaced to survive instead of die, and new cells to form when they’re not needed. These extra cells can divide uncontrollably, causing growths called tumours to form. Tumours can cause a variety of health problems, depending on where they grow in the body. But not all tumours are cancerous. Benign tumours are noncancerous and do not spread to nearby tissues. Sometimes, they can grow large and cause problems when they press against neighbouring organs and tissue. Malignant tumours are cancerous and can invade other parts of the body. Some cancer cells can also migrate through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to distant areas of the body. This process is call

Forever Chemical in your home lead to cancer?

The potential dangers of a group of chemicals — sometimes called “ forever chemicals ” due to how long they last in the environment — have been long suspected. But some of those chemicals, which come from industrial processes such as the production of nonstick coatings like Teflon for pans, have been studied more than others. New research is shedding light on the potential health impacts of these chemicals. They’re finding that these perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have at least some cancer-causing characteristics. But researchers are also discovering that for many of these chemicals, there is surprisingly little existing research into their potential impacts. That matters, they say, because these chemicals can be found in  everything  from drinking water to fast food packaging. PFAS and cancer The latest research comes from researchers at the advocacy organization Environmental Working Group (EWG) as well as Indiana University. Their  study

Vegan Collegen? Is this real?

You’ve probably heard the buzz around  collagen supplements  and your skin by now. But is the hype really that promising? After all, research has pointed to both the benefits and downsides of collagen supplements — and for many beauty-conscious folks, collagen isn’t vegan. That’s because  collagen , a protein found mostly in hair, skin, nails, bones, and ligaments, comes mostly from animal sources, such as beef or fish. But science has discovered a way to make vegan collagen. We’re here to answer exactly how that works and how it competes. How can collagen be vegan? Instead of being sourced from animals, collagen can now be made by using genetically modified yeast and bacteria. To produce collagen, four human genes that code for collagen are added to the genetic structure of the microbes. Once the genes are in place, the yeast or bacteria then start to produce building blocks of human collagen. Pepsin, a digestive enzyme, is added to help structure the building blocks in

New Cafe & Restaurant in KL this July

Perniagaan kembali masuk, perniagaan sekarang.
