Local Handmade Pottery

Hand-crafted pottery lends a certain charm to the home. What would make these items even more appealing is the fact that they have been handmade by locals. These ceramic makers in KL create their own pottery ranging from pretty vases to exquisite tableware that will leave your guests demanding to know where you got them from.


1. A Touch of Clay

This studio is owned by local ceramic artist Cheah Yeow Seng, who has been working with ceramics for many decades now. His studio offers pottery-making classes for beginners, as well as intermediate and advanced pottery classes. Cheah has also had several exhibitions of his works around Malaysia.

2. Bendang Studio

The story behind Bendang Studio is one of the humbling beginnings, perseverance, and innovation. Founder Rozana Musa hailed from Kampung Sungai Petani in Melaka and turned her childhood love for clay into a business. Her style of tableware ceramics is in tune with today’s love for modern and minimalist home products, with a touch of imperfection. While her studio-workshop is located in Melaka, you can find her wares in upscale restaurants in KL and purchase it at The LINC KL.

3. Clay Expression

Clay Expression is another studio that’s popular for the public to get hands-on experience with moulding clay. Established in 2001 by Cindy Koh, the studio also operates on a rent basis, where hobbyists can do the ceramic firing, conduct corporate extra-curriculum workshops, and more. If you need a special item made for your wedding too, they can cover that.

4. Tenmoku Pottery

Established in 1989, Tenmoku Pottery is one of the veteran ceramic makers in Malaysia. With a design aesthetic that is inspired by the flora and fauna of nature, Tenmoku Pottery extends this idea to its packaging as well — all their items are packaged with sturdy recycled cardboard, corrugated paper and biodegradable styrofoam. There is a whole range of items available, from home decor to tableware and jewellery pieces.

5. Thirty3Eleven

Although Thirty3Eleven has only been established for a few short years, it has quickly risen in popularity with its rustic, Nordic, and geometrical aesthetics. Founder Lee Ee Vee also has her own homegrown ice cream brand to her name, The Last Polka. She began dabbling in the ceramic making and decided to start selling her creations as she became more confident in them. Her products are made from stoneware clay mined in Johor and glazed using natural minerals.

Jimmy who was caught in a cycle of addiction, violence and despair had  become a heroine addict after being introduced by his mother’s live-in boyfriend. Janet Cooke, the author of the article wrote that Jimmy is an 8-year-old boy with a third-generation heroin addict.
