LONDON:
Aston Villa have promised to investigate and issue a lifelong ban on a
supporter after Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace unveiled a series of shocking
messages from racism ahead of today's English Premier League clash.
Zaha
posted on Twitter three screenshots of messages containing racial abuse from
the Instagram account of Villa fans. "We regret the disgusting racist
message sent to @wilfriedzaha," Villa said on the club's Twitter account.
"We
condemn all forms of racial discrimination and side with @CPFC. We are
cooperating with the police in investigating this very serious matter and once
the perpetrators are identified AVFC will issue a lifelong ban." All
Premier League matches since the season resumed last month have started with
players, staff and match officials kneeling to protest racial injustice.
Shirts
from the top 20 in the UK's top-flight also carry a logo promoting the Black
Lives Matter campaign.
"This
is an absolute and impossible disgrace. We stand with you, Wilf, and others who
must suffer horrific abuse," Palace said on Twitter.
