KUALA
LUMPUR: UiTM FC debut Super League plans to undergo centralized training at the university's Seri Iskandar campus following the government's
"progress" for contact sports.
The government yesterday announced that teams can conduct contact training from
July 15 while team competitions can be held from August 15. UiTM team manager
Mustaza Ahmad said his team hopes to undergo training for seven to 10 days
before M-Lleague returns.
"We
need to regain our momentum. We plan to go to UiTM Seri Iskandar to stay and
practice there." He said UiTM wanted to play some friendly matches for
their coach, Frank Bernhardt to evaluate the players.
Despite
suggestions to add new players, Mustaza said Bernhardt wanted to stick to the team
composition after the M-League was suspended on March 16 due to Covid-19.
"We
wanted to take on about nine President's Cup players (for the team) but
Bernhardt said no and only wanted two because he did not want to disrupt the
current squad dynamics," Mustaza said.
"If
being a group is too big, he should hold more sessions and not focus too much
on individual players."
Unlike
other teams, UiTM foreign players have stayed in Malaysia during the MCO period
but now they want to go home.
"Ousmane
Fane asked us to allow him to return to France because he wanted to meet his
wife, so we settled him by immigration," Mustaza said.
"Rabih
Ataya also wants to return to Lebanon to see his family. Both players' papers
have been sent to immigration but we want them to return before the first week
of August if there are any conditions for quarantine."
