AN EVERGREEN LEGEND: TAN SRI P.RAMLEE

Although he died more than four decades ago, his name will always be remembered most of the living creatures. Tan Sri P.Ramlee a legend that never dies. The multi-talented star, singer, composer, musician, screenwriter and director.
Comparatively, P.Ramlee remains popular because of his films that he makes and songs that he created. With the advancement of today’s technology, people can easily get access to all his films anytime and anywhere. Concurrent to that, the existent of P.Ramlee has also changed over the years.
Back in the days of the Hollywood studio system, most of the stars would be under the guidance of the teams that would control their appearance, casting and promoting the stars. Even though the stars are not the main subject at that time, but the media’s coverage of their presence will still contribute to the creation of their public image which is known as the “star persona”.

P.Ramlee started to perform at an early age. During that time, he played in his village band called the “Teruna Sekampung” and later with the “Mutiara Band” and “Rindu Malam” before he moves to Singapore. 
In 1947, P.Ramlee topped a singing contest that organized by the Penang Radio for North Malaya and added the initial “P” (Puteh) for his name. His biggest moment came when B. SRajhans a director working with Shaw Brothers discovered him in 1948 while P.Ramlee was singing Keroncong show in Penang. 


That is when P.Ramlee’s star persona started to show up when he was working with the Shaw Brothers. His star persona was created through his films and the studio’s marketing.
P.Ramlee’s skilfulness was most apparent in comedies and he is also best remembered for his works in the genre. The Bujang Lapok series, which the co-stars the late S.Shamsuddin and Aziz Satar, were P.Ramlee’s most beloved comedians because of their personality.
Besides the directing and acting, P.Ramlee used to composed around 250 songs. Gifted with his musical versatility. He explored a lot of genres, from jazz to joget (Malay traditional dance).

His films appear frequently on television, he is the main subject of the countless newspaper articles and magazine. If that is not enough, he even popular on the stage of the musical that devoted to him back in 2014 and it lasted for a week.
Since his death, there has been an even amusement emphasis of him as Malaysian star. P.Ramlee’s persona has gone through a number of transformations. He has now been developed into a national icon and a representative to the whole wide world.
